Cannabis Edibles

In these challenging times, we have been stretched to finding things to do during the day to make it at least bearable. The DIY stores have seen sales soar above 149% and baking products impossible to get hold of now, so in this blog I will have some delicious recipes to share with you to add your cook book of treats to spice up your life.

Whether you are a chocoholic or a savory lover in these recipes you will find cannabis edibles available for you to indulge in on these long summer days.

You may think cannabis is just put into brownies but it’s so much more than that, you can add cannabis into anything butter, sauces, spreads, infused twists on dishes from around the world the list is endless!

Let’s start with a guide on introducing cannabis to your food pallet and I’ll give you some information on how you get started with adding weed into your meals.

What are cannabis edibles you might be asking yourself?

Well Cannabis edibles are any food that is infused with cannabis compounds such as THC and CBD.

A great option for those who don’t want to smoke cannabis but still enjoy it. You can pretty much turn anything into an edible and make it as potent or weak as you like. So it’s up to you on how much you have or little.

How do you cook or bake edibles?

The edible cooking and baking process starts with decarboxylation. You need to heat cannabis in order for your body to absorb cannabinoids, like THC and CBD.

When you smoke weed, this happens from the flame of your lighter so it’s exactly the same when cooking with cannabis.

How long do cannabis edibles stay fresh?
THC cannabis can stay fresh up to the length of 6 months with some edibles, there will still be amounts of THC into it to get you high however this probably wouldn’t be the case as by the end they will be gone.

Just a little reminder if children are in the house keep these out of reach as they can look very deceiving!

How much do you recommend for the first-time cannabis cookers to add to their edibles?
I would highly recommend you start with a small amount of cannabis when cooking with cannabis.

The recipes which I will put below usually a ratio of 1:1 so 1 cup butter to 1 cup ground cannabis—but if this is your first-time infusing weed, use even less.

What is the worst that can happen is the edible won’t be as strong as you hoped! You can always add more.

Do you need any baking equipment for cooking with cannabis?
No its exactly the same as baking a cake the only extra ingredient would be obviously weed. The amount would be 7-10 grams for something larger or two eights.

You can also get started on your weed meals by buying your weed seeds from us at Discount Cannabis Seeds. So let’s take a look at some delicious recipes to get you on the way!

First of all a very famous recipe which every cannabis lover has to try and add into their ingredients is Canna butter! It does take some time and time we have a lot of at the moment, you can even do it in the slow cooker over night!

To make Cannabutter

  •  Finely grind up your marijuana (about 18-30 grams should do the trick).
  •  Add this into a saucepan with 1 Litre of water and about 250g of butter.
  • Bring this to a low simmer and stir it all up.
  • You need to allow this to continue to simmer for at least 3 hours, but up to a whole day depending on how things are going. You will know when it is done when you see a distinct layer of oil floating on the top. If the water gets a bit too low before this happens, add a bit more in.

Note: Make sure you do not fill your saucepan to high it will cause boiling oil to splatter everywhere, making a mess and potentially burning someone. Better yet, use a saucepan with a clear lid.

Once this point has been reached, allow the mixture to cool a bit, then strain it into a large bowl. This will remove any plant matter. Put the bowl in the fridge overnight to solidify, and you will be left with a layer of cannabis butter come morning. Just be careful when removing the top layer of butter from the bowl, you don’t want it to fall in the remaining water! This butter can then be stored in the fridge.

You can add this delicious THC infused butter to any dish that requires butter. Cookies, brownies, soups, the list goes on and on. If you’re new to edibles, just start with a small amount of this potent butter. Try a 1:3 ratio of cannabutter with regular butter in the beginning.

Cannabis Honey

Something for you sweet lovers or maybe who use old wives tales remedies when you are poorly why not try cannabis honey. You can even drizzle this over your pancakes for an extra kick!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of honey
  • 3.5 grams of decarboxylated cannabis

  1. Decarb the cannabis. Preheat your oven to 245ºF. Place cannabis buds on a non-stick, oven-safe tray. Cover the tray with non-stick paper to prevent sticking. Insert the tray into the oven and set a timer for 30-40 minutes. Older, drier cannabis may require less time. Every 10 minutes gently mix the buds with a light shake of the tray to expose the surface area of the buds equally.
  2. Combine the cannabis and honey in a double boiler to apply gentle heat on the stove top.
  3. Simmer. Maintain low heat and let the mixture simmer for at least 40 minutes. The mixture should never come to a full boil.
  4. Strain the honey. Set a funnel on top of a jar and line it with cheesecloth. Once the honey has cooled off, pour it over the cheesecloth funnel and allow it to strain freely.
  5. Storing: Honey can be stored in a cool dark area for 1-2 months.
  6. Then enjoy!

Let's take a look a delicious recipe you can use to make your own cannabis brownies! Now nothing beats brownies and weed does it?

Cannabis Brownies

Your fully in charge of how much bud actually ends up in the brownies. This recipe calls for a full 1/8 ounce of cannabis, yet the process still works if you decide to use less so let's take a look how to make these.

Ingredients

  • 1/8 ounce finely ground cannabis trim
  • 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 4 ounces unsweetened, quality chocolate
  • 1 3/4 cups coconut sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
  • 3 mint leaves, minced (optional)

Pro tip: If you’re not keen on the classic flavor and scent of weed, add finely minced mint leaves to the batter; it will offset the cannabis flavour.

Directions.

Preheat oven to 240°F (115°C). Spread cannabis evenly on a baking sheet. Bake 50 minutes (if using less cannabis, check oven after 35 to 40 minutes). Remove from oven and set aside.

In a medium saucepan, melt butter over low heat. Add decarboxylated (oven-baked) cannabis and lower heat to a simmer. Cook for 45 minutes, then remove from heat.

Strain cannabutter through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a small glass measuring cup or bowl. Discard strained cannabis solids or save for cannabis tea.

Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C) and grease a baking pan with cooking spray.

Place chocolate in a large glass mixing bowl and melt in the microwave or over a saucepan of boiling water.

Add cannabutter to melted chocolate and mix until combined, then mix in coconut sugar, salt, and vanilla.

Add eggs one at a time, mixing until fully incorporated.

Mix in flour, and walnut and/or mint, if using.

Pour batter into prepared baking pan and bake for 25 to 30 minutes. Let cool slightly, then cut into 16 pieces and enjoy!

Weed brownies are fun to make, delicious in the moment, and enjoyable for hours after. What’s not to love?

Just remember, people: A little goes a long way. Especially if you’re a newbie to the culinary cannabis scene, be sure to pace yourself! Take one and then go back a few hours later before starting your next or you could end up in a bad way.

Now let’s try some banana bread! We all remember this from back in the day, in our lunch boxes and the great smell of it! Now it’s time to get a bit mashed up with banana bread and I assure you you’ll love it even more after trying this recipe.

If you are feeling a bit under the weather and need some warming up then this one will be perfect for you. Not all of us are in the summer mood vibe I don’t blame you! So if you want some comfort in these times then why not try some homemade cannabis soup, it will surely put a smile back on your face!

Homemade Cannabis Soup

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons cannabis oil, cannabutter or a dash of weed bud.
  • 2 carrots
  • 1 large onion
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 stalk of celery
  • 1 bell pepper
  • 1 red pepper
  • 2 potatoes
  • 2 leeks
  • ½ cabbage
  • 1 tomato
  • 3 tablespoons oil
  • Salt
  • Black pepper

Directions.

1- Prepare the vegetables: wash them, peel them and slice them into small pieces. Be sure to remove the seeds from inside the peppers.

2- Place a large pot on medium heat and add the oil. When it is nice and hot, pour in all the vegetables, and sauté for 5-10 minutes.

3- While you toss and turn the vegetables with a wooden spatula so they don't stick to the pot, add salt and pepper to taste.

4- Add water to fill ¾ of the pot and turn up the heat to bring it to a boil. Then lower it to a simmer and leave for one hour.

5- When 10 minutes are left to turn the heat off, add the cannabis oil, cannabutter or a dash of weed bud and stir it with a wooden spatula until it has dissolved completely.

6- After the 60 minutes have elapsed, remove the pot from the heat, close it with a lid, and let the soup rest for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Then there’s not much more to do than sit down, relax and get high with your food! Please be sensible when adding cannabis to your food, starting with mg levels such as 2 are the recommended allowance. If you are using oil or buds then a couple of drops of either, don’t get too lit!

Now this is a must when you smoke weed so how about combining both together! Pizza and weed! Oh my god, that is a dream! Now I have the recipe to make homemade pizza just like mama used to make with some infused cannabis into it!

This recipe is for sun dried tomato, pesto and vegetable pizza however if you’re not a topping lover then you can do this without the vegetables and put the cannabis into your cheese!

Cannabis Pesto

4 cups fresh basil, lightly packed

 2 cloves garlic

 2 tbsp pine nuts

 ½ cup Parmesan cheese, grated

¼ cup Pecorino Romano cheese, grated

 ¼ cup regular olive oil

 ¼ cup cannabis olive oil

 1 tbsp lemon juice

 ½ tsp sea salt

¼ tsp black pepper, freshly cracked

Pizza Ingredients

store bought or homemade par-baked crust

 pizza sauce

 1 - 2 tbsp cannabis pesto

 ⅓ cup red onion, diced

 sun-dried tomatoes, sliced

 pizza mozzarella cheese

 marble cheddar cheese

20 slices veggie pepperoni or meatless alternative

Cannabis Pesto

1.Prepare a bowl of ice water. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Put the basil in a sieve & plunge it into the boiling water. Push the leaves down into the water with a wooden spoon & stir them so they blanch evenly. Blanch for 15 seconds, remove from the boiling water then plunge the herbs into the ice water to stop the cooking. Drain immediately, squeeze the basil dry.

2. Add the basil & then pine nuts to a food processor or blender, pulse until roughly chopped.

3. Purée the basil with the pine nuts, garlic, salt, pepper, lemon juice, regular olive oil & cannabis olive oil. When well blended, add the cheese & pulse briefly just to mix. Transfer to a bowl & adjust the seasoning. Store the extra pesto in a small, covered container in the refrigerator for 1 to 2 weeks. Or freeze the pesto for as long as 1 month.

Pizza Preparation

4. Preheat oven to 420°F/215°C. Place the pizza crust onto a pizza pan. Spoon on the pizza sauce & spread evenly on the crust. Add small dollops of the pesto sauce all over the crust.

5.Evenly sprinkle the diced red onion, sliced sun-dried tomatoes & cheese all over the prepared crust. Evenly place the slices of veggie pepperoni on top of the cheese. Bake for about 15 minutes or until the edges & cheese are golden.

6.Remove from the oven & allow the pizza to cool for 5 minutes before cutting. Serve warm & enjoy!
