It was 20 years ago since I first used the Internet, using Yahoo and AOL to check the weather, news and football scores. It was a delight! Little did I, or anyone around me understand that this would take off and change the world.
Since then, we’ve had new brand names like Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter enter the modern lexicon and things like hashtags and @ signs become extremely popular. Lately, a word that has become popular, is ‘influencer’. We all know what influence means, but in this digital age, it has taken on a new meaning.
In 2019, and for the past few years, influencers have become a thing. In the world of social media, an influencer is someone who cares passionately about a certain subject, cause or even product and displays this through their social media channels.
Marketers have jumped on this and have started tapping into their power and audience by sponsoring or paying them to discuss or promote their product. What once started out as an honest pursuit has perhaps been hijacked and turned the whole thing into a big sales and marketing guise.
That said, there are still some good, honest people out there who are in it for the right reasons. In this mini-series, we look at some of those people who are in the world of Cannabis and influencing others. It would be fair to say our first-person up is a micro-influencer but that’s said as a compliment and not to be seen as a negative thing.
Queen Cannabis UK, is mostly active on Instagram and posts a lot on CBD and the medical side of Cannabis which aides her in her anxiety. Her posts are quite personal and natural, not done in any way to be promotional. We don’t have any sponsorship or association. We just wanted to ask a few questions!
Here they are:
What first got you into Cannabis?
I don't know, I went to a pretty hippy school when I was a kid and it was pretty normal for people to smoke it so I guess that helped.
When did you realise you wanted to share your story and share it on Social Media?
Last year sometime i realised that I was taking a lot of photos that I wanted to put somewhere, not so much to share my story but share my passion for this plant that I love so much. I wanted it somewhere that my non weedy friends didn't know about.
Did you set out to be an influencer or did you just become one?
Not at all, I think it still freaks me out a little thinking about that. I think I was more hoping for it to help me find my perfect job in the cannabis industry.
What advice would you give someone who wants to share their passion on Social Media?
Just be you.
Is there anywhere else you would like people to follow you on Social Media?
Not yet no, although if I ever get a shop then I hope people will come and check it out.
As you can see from Queen of Cannabis’ answers, it’s all very natural. That’s what we love about her. It’s not all about just putting yourself out there for the sake of it! She delivers genuine and authentic value to her audience.
