Based in Amsterdam, Barney's Farm are without doubt one the best cannabis seed breeders in the world.
The team at Barney’s Farm are all highly experienced Cannabis Seed breeders and have progressively been gathering landrace genetics from each corner of the world since the early 1980’s.
Barney’s Farm has won numerous international prizes for the flawless quality and stability of its products, making it a recognised world leader in the production of top quality Cannabis Seeds.
Barney’s Farms search for rare genetics will never end, they are dedicated to the creation of new and exciting Cannabis strains.
We asked Barney's Farm a number of questions about their company and the cannabis industry, the feedback is featured below:
1. Do you have any new strains planned for this year?
We are hoping to release one more feminised strain this year, the lab are conducting final tests to ensure the quality and germination rates are what you would expect from the Barneys Farm brand.
We are also working some new exciting “super autos” These are ground-breaking genetics and so far the results are outstanding, but were still experimenting but confident we will release the first three possibly in December.
2. What do you feel differentiates you from your competitors?
Quality, trust in the brand, our professional approach ensuring extensive research and development programmes exist with our breeders working very closely with the laboratory team
3. Do you think we will continue to see Cannabis laws relaxed over the World and if so how will this affect the seed market?
We can see the laws relaxing but only time will tell, if this happens a key benefit for us is the fact that it will greatly improve the opportunities for research and development on a larger scale, another huge benefit to all will be better standards of seed production. We believe seeds rather than clones becoming more popular as the standard of seeds will be much higher.
4. Can you tell us what you think of the Cannabis Seed industry right now?
The current market is peppered with chancers. it’s difficult for the true breeders out there being swamped by the small-time outfits selling cheap copies and low-quality genetics, flooding the market with seeds at prices that are damaging to the industry and impossible to compete with when you have a professional organisation.
The costs incurred not just for advertising and operating costs but research and development! These are just a few of the huge expenses that are incurred when you’re a real company.
Unfortunately, we see to many bedroom outfit brands turning up, supposed companies working from home just blatantly buying cheap seeds wholesale and sticking their own label on them. These so-called brands are not true industry people, just unscrupulous people jumping on to the bandwagon to make a quick buck.
5. What do you feel the future holds for the industry?
Improved genetics for sure as the laws and legalisation changes, the USA and Canada are already seeing the benefits of this, but Europe has the knowledge and real expertise.
Furthermore, once people are legally allowed to grow even medicinally for themselves, you will see companies like Barney’s Farm investing even more into scientific research to provide even better suited genetics and ranges of strains and products for the vast array of conditions we believe the plant can help with.
At the same time we hope the changes will reduce the fakes and assist companies like ours who operate with a solid background on research, development and the constant aim to improve quality and selection.
Our thanks to all at Barney's Farm for contributing to this review.
