The cannabis plant can ease so much pain and suffering throughout the world, yet as it is considered an illegal drug in many countries research into the true potential of healing has not been fully developed.
Despite this, the use of cannabis for medicinal and therapeutic purposes has grown, mostly for the relief of symptoms and the side effects of certain illnesses.
Medical cannabis refers to using the whole cannabis plant, or the plant’s basic extracts, for the treatment of various ailments or conditions.
Cannabis has been shown to contain medically beneficial levels of differing cannabinoids, active compounds found in the cannabis plant.
Cannabis contains over 85 cannabinoids, some of which have been found to have therapeutically beneficial properties. The two major cannabinoids found in cannabis that academic and scientific studies demonstrate to possess the most therapeutic properties are cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) though a number of other cannabinoids, like cannabigerol (CBG) and cannabinol (CBN) also exhibit health benefits.
These cannabinoids interact directly with the body’s endocannabinoid system – a signaling network found within every mammalian species on Earth. It features two cannabinoid receptors, CB1 and CB2 receptors, which THC and CBD “dock” with to provide their therapeutic effects.
THC, the psychoactive agent in cannabis, has been shown to increase appetite, reduce muscle control problems, and reduce nausea, pain, and inflammation.
CBD doesn’t cause a psychoactive effect like THC, but it has been shown to reduce pain and inflammation, as well as be effective in killing certain cancer cells, controlling epileptic seizures, and treating mental illness.
Cannabis is no different to any other drug in that it will never be 100% safe. There will always be some side effect, adverse or allergic reaction no matter how small. Whilst much of the evidence of the beneficial effects of cannabis is anecdotal, further research needs to be undertaken to explore the potential medical benefits that cannabis can bring.
The information contained on our website is intended as a guideline and anyone intending to use cannabis medicinally should consult their doctor beforehand.

How Cannabis Seeds can be used for Medicine
There is a lot of controversy surrounding the use of Cannabis Sativa for both medical and recreational purposes. Most countries around the world have harsh laws that ban the recreational use of cannabis. However, some countries allow for the planting of marijuana for medical reasons, while banning its recreational use.
We have all heard about the supposed benefits of using cannabis seeds. Those who push for the use of these seeds have reported that they can be used as medicine, leading to numerous health benefits. It can be hard to know whether to believe the hype around the medicinal properties of this plant. Relying on scientific results is one of the best ways to decide whether the seeds can improve your health or not.

Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the many cannabinoid compounds that the cannabis plant produces. CBD exhibits numerous therapeutic properties, but what makes this compound so interesting to doctors and scientists is that it does not provide the psychoactive effect normally associated with cannabis, in simple terms CBD does not get you high.
CBD can be used therapeutically as an analgesic, anti-anxiety, anti-bacterial, anti-cancerous, anti-convulsive, anti-depressant, anti-emetic, anti-inflammatory, anti-ischemic, anti-psychotic, anti-spasmotic, bone stimulating, immunosuppressive, and neuroprotective medicine.
It is interesting to note that CBD actually works synergistically with the other cannabinoids in order to provide a more powerful therapy in what is known as the Entourage Effect (The interaction of various compounds in Cannabis). What this means is that each of the compounds contained within the plant (the cannabinoids and terpenoids) work harmoniously with each other to create synergistic therapeutic properties.
In the past, Cannabis was seen strictly as a recreational product but rapid advances in scientific and medical research have uncovered the therapeutic potential of the cannabis plant and there have been a number of clinical trials with cannabis to study its effectiveness as a medical treatment
The human brain contains cannabinoid receptors, which help the body regulate mood, memory, appetite, and pain sensation. The body can naturally produce these endocannabinoids or they can be introduced into the system by way of cannabis. With an increased focus on these health-inducing compounds, some medical professionals have begun recommending cannabis in treatment for a wide array of medical conditions, from Alzheimer’s disease to Epilepsy, Cancer, Glaucoma, Stress, Insomnia, Hyper-tension, and Back Pain.
Cannabis use has evolved far beyond the days of rolling joints and packing pipes. It comes in many forms today, including capsules, sprays, ice cream and skin cream. You can even juice with cannabis in its raw form (meaning that you can get the medical benefits without experiencing the high). And major advances in dosing have evolved, as more strains are lab-tested to determine their potency and levels of the various therapeutic compounds (aiding in our ability to target specific illnesses).
The fact that cannabis is a versatile supplement to traditional treatment methods, with little to no side effects, and can be used by patients who want to take charge of their own health, only adds to its allure.
Elemental Wellness has compiled a practical and informative booklet, Understanding Medical Cannabis Guide which covers topics from how to process and safely administer cannabis to the specific medicinal effects provided by various cannabinoids and terpenoids present in the plant.

Legal Access to Cannabis in the UK
Access to cannabis within the UK is limited to the pharmaceutical cannabis based medicine Sativex.
Sativex® is an oromucosal spray of a formulated extract of the Sativa cannabis plant that contains the principal cannabinoids THC and CBD as well as specific minor cannabinoids and other non-cannabinoid components.
This can only be prescribed to MS sufferers and is at your doctors discretion, so differing postcodes can effect access.
It should also be noted that although the NHS in Wales will subsidise Sativex, the NHS in England will not, so typical treatments can cost up to £500 a month.
All other cannabis use or production in the UK is Illegal.

End our Pain is calling for a change in the law to allow doctors to prescribe cannabis to their patients, where they consider that is appropriate and likely to alleviate their symptoms.
Patients would then be able to go with their prescription to a pharmacy to get their cannabis, just as they would with any other medicine.
