About Cannabis

The cannabis plant can ease so much pain and suffering throughout the world, yet as it is considered an illegal drug in many countries research into the true potential of healing has not been fully developed.

Despite this, the use of cannabis for medicinal and therapeutic purposes has grown, mostly for the relief of symptoms and the side effects of certain illnesses.

Medical cannabis refers to using the whole cannabis plant, or the plant’s basic extracts, for the treatment of various ailments or conditions.

Cannabis has been shown to contain medically beneficial levels of differing cannabinoids, active compounds found in the cannabis plant.

Cannabis contains over 85 cannabinoids, some of which have been found to have therapeutically beneficial properties. The two major cannabinoids found in cannabis that academic and scientific studies demonstrate to possess the most therapeutic properties are cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) though a number of other cannabinoids, like cannabigerol (CBG) and cannabinol (CBN) also exhibit health benefits.

These cannabinoids interact directly with the body’s endocannabinoid system – a signaling network found within every mammalian species on Earth. It features two cannabinoid receptors, CB1 and CB2 receptors, which THC and CBD “dock” with to provide their therapeutic effects.

THC, the psychoactive agent in cannabis, has been shown to increase appetite, reduce muscle control problems, and reduce nausea, pain, and inflammation.

CBD doesn’t cause a psychoactive effect like THC, but it has been shown to reduce pain and inflammation, as well as be effective in killing certain cancer cells, controlling epileptic seizures, and treating mental illness.

Cannabis is no different to any other drug in that it will never be 100% safe. There will always be some side effect, adverse or allergic reaction no matter how small. Whilst much of the evidence of the beneficial effects of cannabis is anecdotal, further research needs to be undertaken to explore the potential medical benefits that cannabis can bring.

The information contained on our website is intended as a guideline and anyone intending to use cannabis medicinally should consult their doctor beforehand.

CBD and Medical Cannabis Research

Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the many cannabinoid compounds that the cannabis plant produces. CBD exhibits numerous therapeutic properties, but what makes this compound so interesting to doctors and scientists is that it does not provide the psychoactive effect normally associated with cannabis, in simple terms CBD does not get you high.

CBD can be used therapeutically as an analgesic, anti-anxiety, anti-bacterial, anti-cancerous, anti-convulsive, anti-depressant, anti-emetic, anti-inflammatory, anti-ischemic, anti-psychotic, anti-spasmotic, bone stimulating, immunosuppressive, and neuroprotective medicine.

It is interesting to note that CBD actually works synergistically with the other cannabinoids in order to provide a more powerful therapy in what is known as the Entourage Effect (The interaction of various compounds in Cannabis). What this means is that each of the compounds contained within the plant (the cannabinoids and terpenoids) work harmoniously with each other to create synergistic therapeutic properties.

In the past, Cannabis was seen strictly as a recreational product but rapid advances in scientific and medical research have uncovered the therapeutic potential of the cannabis plant and there have been a number of clinical trials with cannabis to study its effectiveness as a medical treatment

The human brain contains cannabinoid receptors, which help the body regulate mood, memory, appetite, and pain sensation. The body can naturally produce these endocannabinoids or they can be introduced into the system by way of cannabis. With an increased focus on these health-inducing compounds, some medical professionals have begun recommending cannabis in treatment for a wide array of medical conditions, from Alzheimer’s disease to Epilepsy, Cancer, Glaucoma, Stress, Insomnia, Hyper-tension, and Back Pain.

Cannabis use has evolved far beyond the days of rolling joints and packing pipes. It comes in many forms today, including capsules, sprays, ice cream and skin cream. You can even juice with cannabis in its raw form (meaning that you can get the medical benefits without experiencing the high). And major advances in dosing have evolved, as more strains are lab-tested to determine their potency and levels of the various therapeutic compounds (aiding in our ability to target specific illnesses).

The fact that cannabis is a versatile supplement to traditional treatment methods, with little to no side effects, and can be used by patients who want to take charge of their own health, only adds to its allure.

Elemental Wellness has compiled a practical and informative booklet, Understanding Medical Cannabis Guide which covers topics from how to process and safely administer cannabis to the specific medicinal effects provided by various cannabinoids and terpenoids present in the plant.

Cannabis and the Law

Cannabis legislation is being relaxed all over the world – but not in the UK, where the most unlikely of horticulturalists are taking the law into their own hands

At Discount Cannabis Seeds we only sell Cannabis Seeds as souvenirs and we do not accept any liability for customers purchasing them for any other purposes.

Is Cannabis legal?

  • Cannabis, unfortunately does not follow a strict line of being legal or illegal across the globe, and in fact can vary considerably in each country depending on its use and form.
  • Whilst it is illegal to own or possess the drug in the vast majority of countries around the world, many countries have in fact decriminalised possession in small quantities, with the reasoning that it isn't being used to sell or supply.
  • In the UK, it is actually LEGAL to own cannabis seeds, such as the ones available on the Discount Cannabis Seeds website, but it is 100% ILLEGAL to grow or attempt to grow the cannabis plant from these seeds unless you have a licence from the Home Office.
  • WE STRICTLY ADVISE THAT PURCHASED CANNABIS SEEDS ARE NOT USED TO GROW CANNABIS PLANTS AS THIS PRACTICE IS ILLEGAL WITHOUT A LICENCE.

Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 - Section 6

Restriction of cultivation of cannabis plant.

(1) Subject to any regulations under section 7 of this Act for the time being in force, it shall not be lawful for a person to cultivate any plant of the genusCannabis.

(2) Subject to section 28 of this Act, it is an offence to cultivate any such plant in contravention subsection (1) above.

Anyone found committing an offence contrary to this section may be fined, imprisoned or both.

Cannabis around the World

As is well known, certain countries permit the possession of cannabis in certain circumstances, such as the Netherlands and Uruguay. More recently, a number of states in the USA have enacted legalisation of the plant.

The world map below shows the current state of where Cannabis is legal/illegal.

Germination of Cannabis Seeds

For customers who are legally permitted to germinate Cannabis seeds, the number of cannabis seeds that germinate out of each pack will be extremely important.

We deal with the most reputable Seed Banks from around the world, many of which have their own quality control procedures which include testing the germination rates.

We would like to assure customers that all our Cannabis seeds are purchased from reputable Cannabis breeders and are sold in the breeder’s original packaging.

There are a great number of factors involved on the growing of Cannabis seeds including growing medium, light, temperature, equipment and indeed the skill and experience of the grower.

You can get information on how to apply for a Licence to handle controlled drugs by following the link to the government website https://www.gov.uk/guidance/controlled-drugs-licences-fees-and-returns

Legal Access to Cannabis in the UK

Access to cannabis within the UK is limited to the pharmaceutical cannabis based medicine Sativex

Sativex® is an oromucosal spray of a formulated extract of the Sativa cannabis plant that contains the principal cannabinoids THC and CBD as well as specific minor cannabinoids and other non-cannabinoid components.

This can only be prescribed to MS sufferers and is at your doctors discretion, so differing postcodes can effect access.

It should also be noted that although the NHS in Wales will subsidise Sativex, the NHS in England will not, so typical treatments can cost up to £500 a month.

All other cannabis use or production in the UK is Illegal.

MHRA declares CBD a medicine

Our BLOG details the latest developments from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), who have announced it was designating Cannabidiol or CBD as it is more widely known (a non-psychoactive cannabis compound) as a medicine that can be administered for the purpose of "restoring, correcting, or modifying physiological functions."
