Five celebrities “Gone to Pot” ... John Fashanu, Pam St Clement, Christopher Biggins, Bobby George and Linda Robson.
Gone to Pot features star of Birds of a Feather's and Loose Women Linda Robson, ex-EastEnders actress Pam St Clement, actor and King of the Jungle in I’m a Celebrity – Get me out of here Christopher Biggins, ex England and Wimbledon footballer John Fashanu and former darts champion known as the “King of Bling” Bobby George as they embark on a road trip across America to explore the pros and cons of legalising cannabis. They examine its the use for both medical and recreational purposes in US states where it is legal and meet people who have experienced the benefits and the downsides.
The ITV series explains that Christopher Biggins, John Fashanu, Linda Robson, Pam St Clement and Bobby George all have medical conditions which could be eased using medical cannabis products.
The celebs leave San Francisco laden with products containing cannabis and drive towards LA and soon they (apart from John Fashanu) get their first taste of cannabis under their tongues.
The former footballer John Fashanu is anti-drugs and spends his time tutting at the others, looking disapprovingly as they buy hash cakes or get high at a ‘puff, pass and paint’ class’. John doesn’t want to confess to the others that he’s never smoked pot before and frets as he considers the effect taking a tiny amount of the drug might have on him.
Then he has some hemp massage oil rubbed into him by a nun and almost tuts as he says: “What was really disturbing me was for the next three to four days everyone would be smelling marijuana, thinking I’m a junkie.”
By the end of episode three, they all take a vote on whether cannabis should be legalised on the UK. All five are in favour of legalisation of cannabis for medicinal use with the general consensus being more research needs to be undertaken before it is legalised for recreational use.
Gone to Pot aired Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9pm on ITV (13th – 17th November 2017.
